Symbolism In Games
-----------Symbolism In Games
Symbolism is something really old, a way of communicating something to someone. It is mostly used by The Free Masonry
and other secret societies like The Masonry. But, today, it is more widely used. From small bussinesses to big corporations,
they all use symbols and we know them as trademarks or brands. Like in the bussiness, same is in the gaming world.
So, different game companies use different symbols in their games in order to tell stories in a more subtle way. First,
we must define what symbol can be. Sumbol can be drawn, written or composed (music) piece of art that distinguishes
the game from the others or tell some story or have some deep meaning only in the game itslef for which it is used.
Having this said we could start listing some examples.
Firstly, we are going to look at Deus Ex Human Revolution and Mankind Devided. Here as symbols we can take several
things. Firstly, the name Adam Jensen is a symbol for itself (written symbol). The name Adam represents the beginning
of the new world as the biblical Adam ment the beginning of this world and Jensen might relate to Jesus because he is
the first to become from human to augmented human with purely advanced technology and to cheat death as biblical
Jesus did. And this interpretation is backed up even in their trailer which is this one and represents compsed symbol
(multimedial): Deus Ex Human Revolution Cinematic Directors Cut Trailer. Next will be Mirror’s Edge where the
symbolism can be read in our article named “The Shard” as well as Hitman in our “47”.
In “The Turing Test” we have the name of Ava Turing, where Ava represents biblical Eva, or the first AI humanoid robot as
one thesis suggest and Turing comes from Alan Turing, the man who devised the famous Turing Test wich gives the robot
acknowledgement of possession of AI.
And lastly, in “Life is Strange” we have the two words (and actual animals in the game, which is multimedial symbol) doe and blue butterfly that represent Max and Chloe, the main protagonists, respectively.
