PS4 System Update Should Improve Performance Quality
-----------Sony has released Patch 4.07 for the PlayStation 4 which should improve performance, but it remains to be seen if this will fix recent issues with the PS4 Pro.
Sony released the latest system software update for the PlayStation 4 today and it's now available for download on the PlayStation Network. Patch 4.07 is said to improve the quality of the system performance which implies that this is probably a minor patch, but some fans might be wondering though if this will do anything to fix those PlayStation 4 Pro titles suffering from poor performance.
DualShockers noted that the patch notes bring a slight change in wording as Sony has traditionally used "stability" instead of "quality" when speaking about updates to system performance. But 4.07 also just released in Japan and kept "stability" in the description, so it's unlikely that the North American patch is different. The lack of stability on the PlayStation 4 has led to various memes on the Internet in the past, so maybe this is just a change of wording on purpose for the Western audience.
This news may be kind of disappointing for those who have been playing The Last of Us: Remastered, Skyrim: Special Edition, and several other games on the PlayStation 4 Pro. Few weeks ago, Digital Foundry reported that specific games on the PS4 Pro are suffering from dropped framerates and other forms of slowdown. It could be that Sony have sneaked in a fix with this patch, but one would think they would have specifically called it out in the patch notes because of the recent negative publicity.
In spite of what exactly improved "quality of the system performance" really means, the update is only 312.3 megabytes, so there's really no reason to install it and give it a try. Sony historically doesn't release big software updates during the holiday season, so this may be the last patch games will get until the New Year.
