PS4 Leading Over Xbox One in US Poll
-----------A new Reuters/Ipsos pool reveals more shoppers in the United States are interested in PlayStation 4 than Xbox One, 64 percent not planning to buy new hardware at all.
Last week's online poll about game consoles, 26 percent out of 1,297 said they are likely to purchase the PlayStation 4 compared to 15 percent for the Xbox One. The gap between the two platforms grows for those below 40, with 41 percent choosing the PS4 over 27 percent the Xbox One. The poll was conducted September 23-27.
Reuters recognized that the pool is based on "limited sample," but said the results could "potentially point to a lopsided battle during the crucial holiday season."
At Gamescom last month Sony revealed that PS4 has seen more than 1 million pre-orders. Microsoft has not revealed any figures, but said pre-orders for the Xbox One are much higher that than those of the Xbox 360, which was released eight years ago.
We might be seeing a tough holiday for Sony and Microsoft, as 64 percent of the participants said they would not buy a new game-specific hardware at all when presented with options like next-generation hardware, the Nintendo 2DS, and Valve's "Steam Box" prototype.
Reuters/Ipsos poll also revealed data about the Wii U, which has struggled since launch last year. Of the 1,297 participants, only 3 percent said they currently play games on Wii U, compared to 20 percent for Xbox 360, 20 percent for PC, and 18 percent for PS3.
