Dishonored
-----------Dishonored
This time, we have something from Arkane Studios and Bethesda Softworks. Its the game Dishonored,
firstly released in October 2012 and is based on stealth-action and is in first-person. It takes place in the city
of Dunwall in 1666 and the city of Dunwall resembles both London and Edinburgh from the end of the 18-th
and the beginning of the 19-th century. The music in the game is composed by Daniel Licht who itentionally made
the soundtrack, as he would say “evil fog” that fades in and out in order to make the player unsettled and to feel the
constant presence of danger at any time throughout the game. Here, the main protagonist is Corvo Attano, who is
given supernatural powers after he is taken prisoner after he is being framed for the assassination of the empress.
Now, he has escaped and his quest for finding the conspirators behind the plot.
Dishonored is one, I would say, weird game. The setting is in the 17-th century, the appearance of the city is in the
18-th century and still it has mechanics that come from a bit later and are more futuristic. It is simply hard to imagine
some mix like that, but still, with having its stealth-action base and good storyline, it is acceptable and interesting to play.
As always, we must remember that the stealth-action base gives the game the need for a more challenging way of dealing with
things, enemies and situations.
Quite interesting is that one of Deus Ex designers, Harvey Smith, served as one of the two creative directors in Dishonored.
Another interesting fact would be that the mood in the game was partly inspired by the works of a nineteenth century artist by
the name of John Atkinson Grimshaw, who was depicting London at night.
