New State of Decay 2 Concept Art Revealed

The State of Decay developer, Undead Labs, released a final piece of concept art ahead of the game's previously announced showcase during Microsoft's conference at E3 2017.

Developer Undead Labs has released a new piece of concept art from the upcoming sequel. There's a slight difference between the artwork and the imagery that we saw in the game's reveal trailer at E3 2016, which was set in a slightly darker take on the same landscape.

"The neverending road is a metaphor, which promises a new world at the end of the horizon, but of course you never actually get to the end," writes Undead Lab's community manager Sanya Weathers in the blog post alongside the State of Decay image. "The road always leads to another road, and there's no escaping yourself at any point along the journey."

In the next paragraph, Weathers has revealed that this navel-gazing blurb was simply a gag. There's no deeper meaning to the road itself. The image came from tests the studio made on light levels during the production of the reveal trailer.

With that said, State of Decay 2 is getting closer to the end of its long road to release. This piece of artwork is the final installment of a sequence of concept art reveals spanning couple of weeks. If Undead Labs is done showing off concept materials, it appears that we'll see more screenshots and in-game footage in the near future.

In December 2016, the studio revealed that State of Decay will play a big part in Microsoft's E3 2017 conference. Undead Labs founder Jeff Strain announced that fans would learn the game's release date and what systems it will be available for, which suggests that the zombie-slaying sequel might be a launch title for Project Scorpio.

Almost four years have passed since the launch of the original State of Decay. In the upcoming months, we're sure to hear much more about its promising sequel.
