Age of Empires Online Launches August 16th!
-----------The old, well-known franchise is getting an online sequel. Even though the main idea of free content along with premium membership reminds of us of the milion browser games that are popular nowadays, it seems that the concept as a whole it\'s gong to be just fine. If nothing else, we can state that the game will be hugely addictive.
The current beta phase doesn\'t bring too much content, but it\'s clear how the game will work. At this point, only the Greeks are playable and you start the game in the capital which will be your central base of operations. There you start quests, develop technologies, manage the economy, build structures and start your journeys to different parts of the world. Besides, the idea is that that capital sort of works by itself – you don\'t need to look after it all the time, even in offline mode. The flow of the game generally goes through questing that takes you to new maps, simillar to usual missions found in most strategic games, e.g. conquer the opposing village, free the inmates, gather a certain ammount of resources, build a specific structure... The first couple of missions are pretty simple, designed for solo play, but as you go on they become more complicated and it\'s possible to complete them with other players. There\'s a hidden treasure on every map which can contain resources or some powerful items. It\'s also possible to play multiplayer battles against other players on generated maps and winning those earns you experience points. But, we assume that this aspect of the game will be much more fun when we have more civilizations available.
For those who want more, there is the premium aspect of the game – buying a premium civilization. If you decide to invest money in your nation, you\'ll be able to equip rare and epic gear, unlock amazing technologies, have greater number of buildings and storage space and earn some extra points. This is a bit different from the usual system of buying power-up items, but at the end of the day it comes to the same conclusion – the game is free to play, but in order to achieve anything meaningful you\'ll need to invest a certain amount of money.
