Ubisoft Talks about The Division
-----------The Division, Ubisoft's upcoming shooter is set to include a range of survival elements, which will include the need to search for clean water.
According to a new interview with with lead game designer Mathias Karlson and design director Axel Rydby, they discuss character gear, limited ammo and driving.
Food and water will have a great value in the game, due to the state of the world in the game. Players will have to search for both resources, but they will serve as currency rather than be required for survival.
"Not only do you actually have to go out and look for food and water, but [they] become very valuable and rare resources that can be used to trade and stuff like that," Rydby explained. "But when it comes to having to drink water and eat food to be able to survive, that's not really what we want from it. Food and water will be a very important part of the game, but players will not need to eat and drink to stay alive."
When players start the game, they will be given 72 hours-worth of basic equipment and supplies. This is where they implemented the RPG elements of the game."Moving throughout the world, it's going to be a lot about looting and acquiring new gear as you progress. We're focusing a lot on the RPG aspects of the game since we are very much an RPG, so acquiring loot and gearing up your character is going to be a very big part of the game" Rydby explained.
Also players won't be forced to select a class upfront, rather they will refine their role as they make decisions playing the game, with choices described as "tough" but "fun" at the same time.
Karlson also spoke about the way players will navigate and move throughout the city saying, "The way you navigate and move through the city or a game that is open in nature, it's very core to how you experience the world. We are currently investigating what is the best for our game, what can we do to give you the best experience as a player because that is, in the end, what's most important to us."
The Division's current release target is winter 2014 for the PS4, Xbox One and PC.
