New Resident Evil 7 Gameplay Surfaces

A new gameplay video for game developer Capcom's upcoming survival-horror title Resident Evil 7 emerged online, showing details of what it's like playing the title.

As seen in the video below provided by IGN, the outlet's Daniel Krupa and Gav Murphy take players throughout the highlights of their four hour playthrough of a Resident Evil 7 demo given to them by Capcom. Even though the clip contains lots of assets that have already been seen and covered before, such as the well-known sounding character calling in a trailer and the facing with the patriarch of the supernatural Baker family, the commentary from Krupa and Murphy helps to provide extra context for the game's feel and design choices.

Apart from the video below, additional early coverage of Resident Evil 7 has revealed that the latest entry to the series will be returning to its gameplay roots with things like classic exploration-based puzzle solving. Besides, many recognizable weapons will make their comeback to the seventh installment in the franchise, including the first four hours that have been offered as a taste to the game have the player finding a knife, handgun, shotgun, flamethrower, as well as a grenade launcher - all of which have appeared in the RE series in some form.

Of course, one of the major departures that Resident Evil 7 will be making from the franchise is the game's first person view, making it one of the first entries in the series to shift from fixed camera or third-person perspective. Obviously, the decision from Capcom to change the character's main point-of-view will be conducive to the title's PlayStation VR version, but it remains to be seen if first-person will be a firm choice in general.

Even though everything revealed so far for Resident Evil 7 is definitely intriguing, one detail that Capcom remains reserved about is how the seventh entry will fit within the timeline of the overarching narrative of the series. Right now, the only real story details provided relate to the fact that players will take on the role of Ethan as he explores the derelict Baker family mansion in an attempt to escape.

Resident Evil 7 is scheduled to launch on January 24, 2017 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation VR, and Xbox One.
