Console mods finally confirmed for Fallout 4
-----------Bethesda recently revealed a staggering one million mod downloads for the PC version of Fallout 4 on Twitter. They also announced that the game will finally be receiving console mods on Xbox One during May in beta after the upcoming Far Harbor DLC releases. Bethesda didn't mention an actual release date, even though Microsoft's Xbox One will be the first console to get the action RPG's developer - supported mods.
For those who don't know, Fallout 4's Far Harbor expansion will launch on May 19, which leaves a tiny windows for the feature to become accessible. Fans should expect Bethesda to release more information on how to take part in the beta once the date gets closer.
As we can see in their tweet, Bethesda attached a previously revealed trailer detailing How the Creation Kit works on the console mods' release date besides the news for PC and Xbox One mods. Fallout 4's director Todd Howard and his team explain how tolls will be accessed for players who want to generate fan made content, and how the ingame interface is supposed to work, giving people the ability to search for mods, while letting them bookmark, favorite, rate and give feedback.
Ever since Bethesda's big announcement for console mods in 2015, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players have been asking for information about this feature. All of their questions will be answered in just a few short weekks. It's expected for some of the PS4 fans to get a tad envious of Xbox One, since Xbox One owners are first to get access to the mod beta. The waiting process shouldn't be long though, as Sony's system is set to get the feature in June.
When we take all of this into consideration, we will see that Bethesda is going to redefine the conventions of console gaming. Should the introduction of mods to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One go as planned, other companies are expected to follow and include mods as a standard feature in future console games. In time, as they overcome obvious hardware limitations, mods will become more and more accessible to console players. This means that it won't be just PC gamers the only ones having fun with mods.
