When Splinter Cell Meets Call Of Duty
The world war two has begun. You are Semion Strogov, a russian captain in the Soviet counterinteligence agency
SMERSH (Russian: СМЕРШ – acronym of "death to spies" – Russian: Смерть шпионам [SMERt' SHpionam])
working for Viktor Semyonovich Abakumov, a brutal official who tortures his prisoners inside SMERSH
(SMERSH and Abakumov were real). Your main tasks are to eliminate targets and steal documents using stealth
infiltration and extraction. We say that this game (Death to Spies, named after SMERSH) meets
Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell games and Call of Duty games because it is stealth-action based game which takes
place in the second world war. The second reason is because it uses some stealth approaches to the enemy as
well as combat techniques simillar to the SplinterCell franchise. The combat part of Death to Spies that makes
it closer to the, lets say, Call of Duty franchise, is taht in Death to Spies there are parts were you will certainly
enter into heavy combat situations risking the mission, but apart from that, it is mostly quiet, silent game.
And don’t you dare to take the quietness as a joke because the quietness is the thing which makes Death to Spies
a so intense game at some particular points as well as addictive. The cutscenes between the levels occur in 1951
when Abakumov is arrested and then, after Stalins death, on 19 December 1954 executed by order of Khruschchev
for treason. In these cutscenes Strogov is being interrogated about his missions in order to determine wheter he is
somehow connected to Abakumov except from the proffesional relation.
Having these properties, Death to Spies is one game that jumps off the ordinary ones thus giving the players unique
chance of experiencing both combat and stealth combined with subversion, in one unique way. This game is an old
one but nevertheless, it is still a good one because of its own distinction from the other games as well as the
challenging levels that it includes.
