Xbox Boss Says He's Not a Fan of Third-Party Exclusives
-----------Final Fantasy XIV won't be coming to Xbox One any time soon.
Xbox head Phil Spencer, while speaking to IGN he revealed that he is not a fan of third party exclusives. He revealed that he sees the company doing less and less third party exclusives on the Xbox One.
"It's business," he said, adding he couldn't speak too candidly about the matter. "As I've grow in this role, and I've tried to learn the third-party exclusivity thing - and you see us doing less of it now - [I've found] it's not something I'm a huge fan of."
Spencer cites that he likes to bring different aspects of a game to the Xbox One instead of deal with third-party exclusive titles, citing the Fallout 4 mods coming to the platform and how Microsoft worked with EA to get EA Access. He notes a different situation with Rise of the Tomb Raider, however, since Microsoft is playing an active role in its development and publishing.
But in the case of third parties, Spencer claims business deals change things and create platform-specific exclusives.
"Different kind of deals happen, and I know that's part of this business, and maybe it'll be my failing in the end," he says, laughing. "But it's not something I specifically embrace with any deal that's out there, whether it's something else. It's just not something I can explicitly talk to."
