Xbox 360 Sales Reach a New Milestone
-----------80 million units sold and counting, reveals Microsoft.
Microsoft has now “reached 80 million consoles sold to retailers worldwide,” this was announced as part of the NPD report for September. The "sold to retailers" phrase doesn't mean all those consoles have found their owners yet, though retailers wouldn't buy consoles unless there was consumer demand.
The Xbox 360 software sales in the United States alone has reached $401.2 million in September, which is the biggest month for Microsoft or any other console in the US for that matter. Grand Theft Auto V contributed to that milestone, as the game alone made up up more than 50 percent of all US software sales in September.
Lastly, Microsoft said Xbox 360 remains the number one selling console in the US for 2013, moving 1.6 million units this year.
Xbox 350 released in the fall of 2005. With 80 million units sold, it's officially the seventh best-selling piece of gaming hardware in the history of the industry, just behind Sony’s PlayStation and PlayStation 2 and Nintendo’s DS, Game Boy/Game Boy Color, Wii, and Game Boy Advance.
