Rise of the Tomb Raider PS4 Digital Preorders Come With Free TR: Definitive Edition

Fans of video games who decide to pre-order Rise of the Tomb Raider from Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix will also get the 2013 title starring Lara Croft absolutely free.

With Rise of the Tomb Raider finally getting released in October on PS4 after many considered it to be an incredibly awaited title, it looks like the developer Crystal Dynamics and publisher Square Enix are rewarding PlayStation fans for their patience.

As it seems, the companies have decided to offer up a copy of 2013's crowd pleasing and critically praised Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition as a free plus for those who pre-order the digital version of Rise of the Tomb Raider right off the PlayStation Store.

For those unfamiliar with the lengthy delay for Rise of the Tomb Raider's release on PS4, it was because of Square Enix' controversial decision on making the game an Xbox timed exclusive, as it released back in 10 November of 2015 on Microsoft consoles. Having said that, hopefully for the sake of the publisher and developer, fans of Sony will consider the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition bonus a worthy gift as a compensation for the delay, and it's giving them the incentive to put down their money ahead of the title's launch on PS4.

In addition to the free games for those who pre-ordered, there's a wide range of goodies offered up in what's being dubbed the 20th Anniversary Celebration. For example, the upcoming PS4 version of Rise of the Tomb Raider will receive a new single player, a mode called Blood Ties that focuses on narrative, some zombie horde styled gameplay called Lara's Nightmare, and a co-op mode named Endurance.

Along with the aforementioned pieces of content in Rise of the Tomb Raider's 20th Anniversary Celebration for PS4, all previously released DLC, new costumes and skins, and even Blood Ties with PlayStation VR support will be available. PC and Xbox one owners of the game will get these materials - except from PS VR assets, obviously - through Rise of the Tomb Raider's Season Pass for free.

Rise of the Tomb Raider is now available on PC and Xbox One, followed by its PlayStation 4 version launching on October 11, 2016.
