Assassin's Creed 5 Not Set in Japan
-----------The next installment in the franchise will not feature samurai.
Jade Raymond, Ubisoft Toronto executive revealed that Assassin's Creed V will not take place during feudal Japan. He dismissed the rumored setting when he talked about the franchise, while mentioning that the game will take place in his favorite historical era, though he did not reveal which one.
“When we’re building a franchise, we’re thinking of a whole universe and how we’re developing a meta-story that could live on for many years in games and TV,” said Raymond. “If the story has nowhere to go, then you end up with the video game equivalent of The Matrix 2 or something where it’s never going to be quite as genius.”
Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag lead writer Darby McDevitt cleared up the confusion about Assasin's Creed series ending.
"There's been a bit of confusion in that [Black Flag director Ashraf Ismail] once said that Assassin's Creed has an ending — that's not exactly true," he explained. "This storyline has an ending, but because all of history is open to us, we see the universe as a Doctor Who-type thing. There are so many possibilities we don't want to definitively end the universe, but we can have storylines that have endings."
Ubisoft has yet to officially announce Assassin's Creed V. Reports suggest that Ubisoft is planning two separate games coming later this year: one for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 and another for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
