An Open Source Windows is "Definitely possible"
-----------One of Microsoft's top engineers says "It’s a new Microsoft."
Even though Windows has been around for a long time, and has made a lot of money, now Microsoft is changing things up. According to Mark Russinovich, the CTO of Microsoft Azure the market has changed and Microsoft is acknowledging that.
"It's a new Microsoft," he said during the three-day ChefConf 2015. "Every conversation you can imagine about what should we do with our software—open versus not-open versus services—has happened."
Everyone can recognise that this is not going to happen right away, but even having had this conversation means that Microsoft is acknowledging that a change is needed.
As Facebook engineer Phil Dibowitz told Wired, "This wouldn't have happened two years ago." Also Microsoft will be giving Owners of Windows 7 and 8 a free upgrade to Windows 10 free of charge for up to a year after it has been released.
