Watch Dogs 2 Won't Have Ubisoft's Tower Climbing Mechanic

Ubisoft developers stated that its forthcoming action-adventure title, Watch Dogs 2, will exclude the company's familiar tower climbing game mechanic.

As many gaming fans are already aware, the most recognizable aspects of any recent title from Ubisoft is tower synchronization, which makes players to get involved in climbing tall structures not only to see the rest of the map, but also to further unlock landmarks and missions of the story. However, according to the action-adventure title's creative director Jonathan Morin, Watch Dogs 2 won't continue this particular trend with its gameplay.

Assassin's Creed was the first game that introduced tower climbing mechanic, and has since received numerous thematic variations through Ubisoft's history, with the first Watch Dogs, The Crew, and even the Far Cry titles relying on the feature. Watch Dogs 2, unlike these games, is set to leave from the pack by not being connected to particular locations with the completion of story missions, with an explanation from Morin that the forthcoming release is instead focusing on how many virtual followers Marcus Holloway has accumulated.

Players in Watch Dogs 2 can basically view the accrual of Marcus' followers while gaining XP as they make discoveries and finish certain activities around the city. So, by essentially excluding the method of having to be tethered to certain geographical spots in order to progress, it seems like developers want fans to be able to have a true open world feeling in its San Francisco setting.

Morin added that Watch Dogs 2 fans can barely touch the story with this much freedom of exploration, and thanks to the different operations which give you followers that will guide your progression, players can unlock everything else through co-op or free-roam. If fans want to finish the story above all else, they can choose to do so by completing three separate "milestones".

Watch Dogs 2 is scheduled to release on November 15, 2016 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
