South Park: The Fractured But Whole Not Coming to Switch
-----------Following a misunderstood tweet from South Park's official Twitter, South Park Studios shoots down a rumor that The Fractured But Whole is coming to Nintendo Switch.
The official Comedy Central's South Park Twitter account set off a speculation earlier this week that the upcoming Ubisoft game South Park: The Fractured But Whole might become available on Nintendo Switch. But now,
a representative from the show has confirmed that a Switch version of the game is not in development.
On March 13, the official South Park twitter account posted a GIF of Cartman freezing himself with the caption, "Nin-ten-do. I'm coming, I'm coming, Nin-ten-do. #blizzard2017." The quote comes from Episode 12 of South Park's 2006 season, the one where Cartman decides to freeze himself on purpose ahead of the Nintendo Wii's release date so he doesn't have to wait for it any further.
The tweet immediately caused speculations on Reddit and NeoGAF that the announcement from South Park was teasing a Switch release for South Park: The Fractured But Whole. But it was not meant to be, as South Park Studios shared a statement via Comedy Central on Wednesday to shoot down the rumor.
"South Park: The Fractured But Whole won't be coming to the Nintendo Switch," the representative told IGN. When asked for comment, Ubisoft didn't provide any additional info on the matter.
Taking another look at the original tweet, the hashtag #blizzard2017 should've been seen as a strong hint that the account was not pointing to the Switch. Most of the Northeast as well as New York City where Comedy Central is based has been hit by a late winter storm over the last couple of days. The tweet was probably describing the current conditions outside at the time.
South Park: The Fractured But Whole was first revealed at E3 2015 but has recently had some development issues. Originally set to release in December 2016, it was first pushed back to Q1 2017 only to be postponed once again into Ubisoft's next fiscal year. The game is a sequel to 2014's well-received South Park: The Stick of Truth.
South Park: The Fractured But Whole is currently set to release in the 2017-2018 fiscal year for PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
