San Diego Comic Con Panel Reveals Halo Wars 2 Story Vidoc

SDCC 2016's Halo Wars 2 panel features a new Story Vidoc with a closer look at the game's antagonist, Atriox and the Banished.

Microsoft returned to San Diego's Comic Con 2016 with a new Halo game, just like they do almost every year to show their upcoming Halo release off. This year is far from different, now with Halo Wars 2 taking the spotlight pending its release in 2017. As common for San Diego Comic Con's panels, the event has hosted voice actors from the game as well as development team. Also common for SDCC, there was something special for people who were there and were looking for exclusive details on the game, which in this case is a cinematic as well as a story vidoc.

Halo Wars 2's story vidoc features a short cinematic teaser, which is a few short clips of cinematic story sequences from the game, as well as a few developers providing additional details on the title. Mos of the background information should be immediately familiar to anyone that's following Halo Wars 2. Halo Wars' original The Spirit of Fire is back, 28 years after a ride in cryo sleep. They have a fateful encounter with the mysterious and clever Atriox and his mercenary force, The Banished, on the Ark from Halo 3. The story starts from here.

It's an interesting option by Microsoft to set the events of Halo Wars 2 on the Ark, tying it back to Halo 3. Halo Wars was always held as a sort of awkward side story within the Halo franchise, so a tie in to the main series will imply that Microsoft wants Halo series to be taken seriously, but not too seriously. Of course, since there isn't any particular meaningful tie ins to the main series, just a setting from a past game. If it was Master Chief leading the Spirit of Fire's forces, then it would be a topic suitable for discussion.
