Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild DLC Still 'In Development'

Nintendo has officially announced that the DLC for its upcoming open-world adventure, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, is still "in development" at the moment.

Couple of days ago, Nintendo revealed that it has plans to offer a season pass for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which will give fans access to two different expansions that are set to be release over the course of 2017. Now, the Big N has officially announced that the previously mentioned DLC for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is still "in development," which means that the first part of expansion content that was initially set to come out on day one of the game's launch - that is, items such as three bonus chests in the game's Grand Plateau area - could be postponed by a little bit.

As seen in the video below, this news comes from an interview on an episode of IGN's Nintendo Voice Chat with Nintendo of America's Marketing Manager, Bill Trinen, in which the Big N employee shares a few details about the DLC for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. What's more to Trinen's explanation behind Nintendo's decision to create season pass content for Breath of the Wild is that the company's Marketing Manager in America also talked about how "tough" it was to even announce.

As Trinen put it in the interview, Nintendo would have been wasting an opportunity to give fans more content for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild if the company just released the game with no post-launch DLC to speak of after its release. In fact, he said "it would be a waste to just make one game and end things there," and said that since it's still "in development," it won't be available on the "day or the week after" Breath of the Wild comes out. Nonetheless, the Marketing Manager of Nintendo of America didn't confirm as to when exactly fans should expect the content to release.

Despite this, at least fans have a general idea when The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild's two major expansions come out, with summer 2017 including a new Cave of Trials challenge, a new hard mode, as well as a new feature for the in-game map. After its release, the second DLC pack is scheduled to arrive closer to Christmas 2017, and it's going to introduce a brand new dungeon with an accompanying storyline. Strangely enough, Nintendo has declared that both the Switch and Wii U version of the game will get the season pass content, but neither pack can be purchased separately.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is scheduled to release on March 3, 2017 for the Nintendo Switch and Wii U.
