Halo Wars 2 Won't Have a Physical Release on PC in the US
-----------343 Industries and Microsoft have officially confirmed the decision to not release physical copies for the upcoming real-time strategy game, Halo Wars 2.
According to an official post about Halo Waypoint written by 343 Industries' community manager, Brian Jarrard, it looks as if the decision to turn down any physical units for Halo Wars 2's PC version in the US potentially comes down to being a cost-cutting strategy, since there are not much details offered as to why the country won't get discs for the game for personal computers.
Considering the matter, Jarrard wrote, "Our retail plans have changed and Microsoft has made the choice to focus the release of the physical retail version to Europe only." A month ago, Microsoft officially announced its partnership with publisher THQ Nordic in order to create Halo Wars 2's PC edition. Regarding the organizations' collaboration for the RTS game, Jarrard declared THQ Nordic to be a "great partner," with Microsoft continuing to work with with the publisher to "make sure this transition remains smooth for our customers."
Even though neither 343 Industries nor Microsoft have shared what was the specific reason as to why there won't be PC copies of Halo Wars 2 in the US, it's safe to say that there will certainly be some fans who will be disappointed by the resolution. However, it's hard to argue against the decision, because the companies working on the real-time strategy game will surely save money by not paying to manufacture plenty of discs, and the Halo Wars 2 digital version on PC will be priced exactly the same on launch day with the majority of PC fans - perhaps all of them - primarily downloading copies of games rather than buying physical editions.
For those who don't know, one piece of research published by the trade magazine and website dedicated to the computer and IT industry, PCR, has decided that 92% of PC game sales were digital downloads in 2013, and it's obvious that the percentage is almost similar today.
Halo Wars 2 is set to launch in February 21, 2017 for Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs.
