Ed Boon Says 'Maybe Some Day' on Horror Movie Fighting Game
-----------NetherRealm Studios director Ed Boon discussed the possibility of creating a horror fighting game.
NetherRealm studios might make a move on creating a horror movie fighting game. We've already seen Freddy Krueger make an appearance in Mortal Kombat 9 and all the horror icons that were added to Mortal Kombat X as DLC packages. It seems as a long shot for now, but Ed Boon, NetherRealm Studios' boss is more than open for the idea.
"Maybe one day we'll do it," said Boon in answering Game Informer's question about the possibility of a horror fighting game. A project of this magnitude will require NetherRealm Studios to get licencing rights to several horror movie characters, which is a bit tricky, as the characters are owned by different movie studios.
In reality, if the studios are to trust someone, that should be NetherRealms Studios as they have already proven their ability to do good to popular characters. This includes a lot of the superheroes in Injustice, not just the guest horror movie characters NetherRealm has produced for Mortal Kombat.
Even if NetherRealm doesn't introduce a horror fighting game, fans can expect a series of different guest characters in future titles from this developer. The most popular DLC characters for Mortal Kombat X were the Alien Xenomorph and Predator, which proves that fans of the game have a huge appetite for guest characters.
The most downloaded DLC for Injustice was Mortal Kombat's Scorpion. This proves that gamers enjoy the crossover appeal of characters from different franchises.
In the meantime, it's very questionable who else will NetherRealm pull from horror franchises. Pinhead from Hellraiser and Michael Myers from Halloween come to mind, other than those two, every major horror villain has already been featured in Mortal Kombat. Freddy Krueger, Leatherface, Jason Voorhees are a few of the horror icons who have been featured in Mortal Kombat, so if any more horror characters are to be added in the game, NetherRealm will have to start thinking outside the box to fill out the ranks.
