Duke Nukem Announcement Coming Next Week from Gearbox

Video game developer Gearbox Software officially revealed that it intends to make an announcement next week that's related to the Duke Nukem franchise.

As seen in the tweet below, a fan mentioned to Pitchford that the possibility of a Duke Nukem and Gears of War 4 crossover would be "badass," which resulted in the Gearbox CEO hinting at the proclamation for the former shooter franchise being on deck for next Thursday, December 1. Nonetheless, Pitchford denied to share any further hints for what the announcement could be despite other fans' asking him to do so.

For those uninformed, the Duke Nukem details will arrive on the same day as The Game Awards 2016, which could pretty much be the platform that Gearbox Software uses to make the announcement. Naturally, neither the awards show nor the developer have confirmed it officially, but it's a possibility.

As for what the announcement could be, it's interesting that Pitchford suddenly said something after a fan combined the words Duke Nukem and Gears of War 4 in one sentence, which means that Duke Nukem might be added as a playable character for The Coalition's third-person shooter. After all, the game isn't without its guest stars, as Gears 4 recently added the hip-hop duo Run the Jewels as characters.

Of course, speculations have been circling around in the past that Duke Nukem might be added as a new character in Gearbox's first-person shooter Battleborn. However, taken into consideration the fact that there hasn't been a proper new entry in the franchise since Duke Nukem Forever, it's about time for everyone to hail to the king once more with a fresh installment in the series.

With that said, if Gearbox makes an announcement for a brand new Duke Nukem game, the studio will have a lot of work ahead in order to make sure that one of the best action video game characters receives the proper treatment on current platforms. After all, the franchise's track record has lately been arguably less than stellar.

The Duke Nukem announcement from Gearbox Software is scheduled for next week on Thursday, December 1.
