Destiny: Bungie Still Thinking About Matchmaking for Raids
-----------Video game developer Bungie admitted that it's still thinking about adding matchmaking support for raids in its popular science fiction shooter Destiny.
Even though always being on fans' PvE wishlist, Destiny currently lacks the capacity for matchmaking with raids, but the action-RPG might see that change sometime in the near future. As a matter of fact, when world design lead Steve Cotton spoke to the press outlet Metro about potentially adding the feature to Destiny, he stated that Bungie has been discussing whether or not it could make its way into the game.
Throughout the interview, Metro asked Cotton about Bungie getting feedback from Destiny's community and how it decides what to add in the title, using the example of fans wanting matchmaking support for raids for the longest time, but eventually never receiving it. As the world lead design stated, the feature isn't off the table, as the developer has apparently been thinking about that a lot, but it has yet to make a decision if it will ever be incorporated into the game.
Internal discussions at Bungie about adding the feature have been going on as far back as Destiny's launch in 2014, as the game's lead designer Luke Smith has said at one time that a looking-for-group mechanic is an item that the studio is absolutely looking forward to add. However, it still hasn't happened, and has stimulated seemingly endless talks about raid matchmaking ever since.
The Metro interview is mostly focused on Destiny's Rise of Iron expansion, but Cotton also spoke in a more widespread manner about Bungie absolutely listening to the game's community, stating that the team focuses its attention more on new content instead of looking at extra features such as matchmaking support for raids. Naturally, this doesn't mean that Guardians should give up on their hopes that Bungie won't ever add the feature to Destiny, for it was recently revealed that the anticipated addition of private matches will launch together with Rise of Iron in September.
Destiny's Rise of Iron expansion is scheduled to release on September 20, 2016 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
