Xbox One Now Supports Multi-Disc Games
-----------Microsoft confirmed an update to the Backward Compatibility feature of the Xbox One, saying that Multi-Disc Xbox 360 Games can now be used on the Xbox One console.
Gamers were excited to be able to play some of the classic titles of the last console generation when Xbox 360 backward compatibility was revealed as a brand new feature of Xbox One. There were a few caveats though, these restricted access to some of the games because some of the titles were unsupported due to an inability to run multi-disc games. Microsoft confirmed that they have solved this issue.
Xbox Live's director of programming, Larry 'Major Nelson' Hyrb revealed the news over on the Xbox One Reddit. "I can confirm that the BC team has done work to support multi disc scenarios," Major Nelson said on the thread. "Be sure to thank the BC engineers."
Some multi-disc games have been added to the roster of backward compatible games. Deus Ex's Human Revolution, specifically, the Director's Cut has been added to the backward compatibility program this week, which has become the first multi-disc title to be available with the feature. It follows the standard edition of the game, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, which was added in the backward compatibility line-up for December last year.
A Microsoft spokesperson added some further details to Polygon. "We know fans were asking for this feature and our engineers worked hard developing a solution to enable it so we could further expand the titles included in Xbox One Backward Compatibility," said the Microsoft representative. "We're continuing to listen to our fans on Xbox Feedback and work with our publishing partners to grow our library of Xbox One Backward Compatibility titles and will work to include more multi-disc games."
Microsoft has been working on a number of workarounds to make sure the backward compatibility works as fans expect it to, and the move to allow multi-disc games shows that the company is far from done with the feature. We're hoping that more games can be added to the backward compatibility roster going forward.
