Ubisoft Will Debut Two New VR Games At E3 2016
-----------Ubisoft has confirmed that it will show two brand new virtual reality games to E3 later this month, in addition to two previously announced games.
Virtual reality looks like its hitting the mainstream in 2016, now that headsets like the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive are coming out in the wild and are available for purchase. It's now time for developers to push the limit of what this hardware can achieve, with Ubisoft eager to lead the charge.
French publishers and developers have announced that they will bring two completely new VR experiences to E3 next month. Additionally, anyone who wants to try these projects will be able to on the event's show floor.
Ubisoft is already developing a couple of VR projects that have already been announced, Werewolves Within and Eagle Flight. Although, it's been confirmed that separate mysterious games will give their first public showing at E3.
Little that is known about Werewolves Within and Eagle Flight may well give us clues about the other two titles. Werewolves Within seems relatively like a simple adaptation of the popular game Werewolf, while the Eagle Flight is larger and more complex, that most likely will feature both a single-player campaign and a range of multiplayer mods.
Interestingly enough is that neither use an established IP, even though Ubisoft has plenty of popular franchises to choose from. It wouldn't be much of a surprise to see one of the unannounced projects use either Rayman or the Rabbids as set dressing.
From all of the franchises Ubisoft has ownership of, it seems nothing like a snug a fight for VR as Assassin's Creed. To explain away VR interface, the Animus machine seems like a perfect conceit, and we already know that virtual adaptation of the IP is set to launch in support of this year's movie.
Ubisoft is not going to handle the project directly, but it's possible that one of the experience could be the two reveals being teased for E3. Even though it's not developed in-house, Assassin's Creed debut on VR hardware seems like the attention-grabbing showcase that's exactly what this event needs.
