The PC Version of Dishonored 2 Got a 'Sub Par' on the Tech Test

A tech evaluation of Dishonored 2 blasts the PC port of the game, which has a frame-rate issue that isn't as prevalent on console editions.

It's not a secret that the PC version of Dishonored 2 has big performance issues, and despite the fact that a new patch has improved things for anyone still sneaking around in Dishonored 2, the light at the end of the tunnel seems far away. A technical test recently conducted by Bethesda Softworks has no business shipping the game in its 'sub par' original state.

The hard-hitting report has revealed that even with a powerful PC consisting of an overclocked Intel i7 4790k and a Titan X Pascal, the game maxes out 38 FPS in full 1080p resolution, a stat that will likely deter a lot of 60 FPS purists from picking up a PC copy of the game. Even on console editions of Dishonored 2, the report notes that when a lot of enemies rush in during combat elements, gameplay FPS drops to 20, which is a poor performance regardless of how one looks at it.

These massive problems with the game's performance will only detract from Dishonored 2's fairly lackluster sales, which leave the title a comparative 40% down from the first part of the Dishonored series. Now that Bethesda stated it will no longer be sending out early review copies of its titles, fans may be concerned about picking up future games on their respective launch days.

With that being said, Dishonored 2 is not the first title to have huge PC support problems, Mortal Kombat X had long-lasting issues on the platform, and even started bypassing it in terms of DLC support. While the problems with Dishonored 2 seem to be performance related right now, gamers are still a few patches away from catching up to the console editions, which should be the devices typically playing catch up to PC performance.

The report stated that the PS4 Pro boasts the performance between all console platforms for Dishonored 2, delivering an 'astonishing' but stable 30 FPS throughout the gameplay and cutscenes as well. Digital Foundry has stated that the console editions look good compared to the problematic PC edition, so gamers who are looking to pick up the title should give the good old console a thought before buying it.
