Skull Code - The Latest Clue in Sombra's Overwatch Investigation
-----------Private detectives on the internet uncovered the next big clue in Blizzard Entertainment's ongoing ARG for Overwatch, that seems to indicate the next hero in the game is Sombra.
Since Blizzard added Overwatch's first post-launch hero to the game in the form of support sniper Ana couple of weeks ago, the community's attention has turned towards what is coming next. Blizzard themselves have been having a bit of fun with the speculation and Easter Eggs into Overwatch promotional videos and the game's website and the game itself.
At this point, the smart money seems to indicate that the next hero to be added to Overwatch will be the mysterious Sombra. The latest evidence came in the form of Skull Code discovered by fans on Friday, the first of many big breaks the community had in a couple of weeks.
Kotaku has reported that the search for Sombra was lead by a group of people that call themselves the Game Detectives. Earlier this month, the ARG hunters noticed that certain frames in the promotional video for the Overwatch Summer Games seemed to have arrows pointing fans in a certain direction. The Game Detectives have created a compass by arranging the heroes' images in accordance with the directions.
Fans couldn't figure out what they were supposed to do with the chart once assembled, and things took a turn when Overwatch game director Jeff Kaplan was asked about "the compass" during an August 4 livestream.
This decision sent fans to scour the skies of the Dorado map that was previously associated with Sombra. The "Game Detectives" found some sort of code in the sky but they couldn't figure out how to decipher it, even with a compass. Blizzard stepped in to help the fans after it was obvious they got stuck at a dead end.
No one is sure where to go from there, but the detectives are pouring over every detail in the skull to look for their hint in an ARG that just keeps getting more and more complex.
At least Blizzard proved that they are good at keeping their community engaged, and it's really no surprise that Overwatch accumulated 15 million players and that it remains one of the Top 10 Games of 2016, at least so far it's been on that list. As for what's next in the Sombra ARG saga, fans will have to wait for the next big news break.
