No Man's Sky Won't Require PlayStation Plus for Online Play on PS4

With No Man's Sky launch getting closer, Game Informer Australia Editor, David Milner has confirmed that the game won't require players to have PlayStation Plus on the PlayStation 4.

As the August launch of No Man's Sky gets closer and closer, there's still a few lingering questions surrounding the title. For many, most important thing to know is how the game will actually play and that's something Sony tries to fix, thanks to a series of recent videos that breaks down the four major beliefs in the game.

In addition, most fans have wondered if the title would ask for an online subscription service like PlayStation Plus in order to access the online part of the title. Thanks to a Twitter confirmation from David Milner, a Australian Game Informer Editor, fans are now aware that PlayStation Plus won't be required when the space exploration title launches in a few weeks.

Although No Man's Sky does include an online component, it doesn't feature multiplayer in the traditional sense. The game's code creates the random world, it's not server-side, which lets majority of players to explore the universe offline.

Nonetheless, No Man's Sky will have a number of online enabled features as well including tracking the movement of friendly players and utilizing The Atlas. Gamers who locate new species of planets, lifeforms, plants and everything else in the universe can upload these discoveries to The Atlas, which functions as an information repository for everyone in the game based on player findings.

Since PlayStation 4's launch, PlayStation Plus has been a required feature for players who want to go online on their games. Most online enabled games, if not all, require the service to be active, so No Man's Sky may be the first non-free to play game that doesn't have this requirement.

No Man's Sky arrives on August 9 for PC and PlayStation 4.
