Major Homeworld: Remastered Update Incoming
-----------The update will address the biggest player concerns with the complete rework of the formations, which will allow them to be more "intelligent" in especially large groups. Judging by a Fists of Heaven report, the update was in the works for six months and its the core focus of few team members within Gearbox Software.
“We’ve been heads down on this patch for six months, which can make us look like we haven’t been paying attention, but we have.” said Gearbox's Dave Eaton on the Fists of Heaven fansite.
Ships with different mixes will form up in different ways based on number of factors that include races such as: Kushan's ion cannon destroyers require line of sight while the missiles fired by their Vaygr counterparts do not, and the formations will reflect those differences. Existing formations are changed in order to improve their firing arcs, which gives modders the ability to create their own unique formations to different ship classes, races, and tactics.
Weapons like projectiles are also changed to use true ballistic behavior, which merely relied on RNG that determined if a shot landed or not. The weapons will rarely misfire, and missed shots will continue their path with the possibility to hit other ships that are friendly or enemy.
Targeting overhaul is being overhauled to better prioritize targets, with tactical settings having much more visible impact on combat.
“We’ve been busting our asses to get it done,” Eaton said. “And the results are going to be something that I hope everyone’s really happy with.”
Major changes to the gameplay balance, bug fixes and tweaks are going to follow, and even some graphical improvements. There's no mentioning of a release date for this update, except for the Fist of Heaven report saying that the patch has entered its final stages, which hopefully means soon.
