Machine Games Released A New Quake Episode In Honor Of 20th Anniversary
-----------Developer Machine Games has decided to release a brand new episode for the classic first-person shooter Quake as a gift to fans, in celebration of the series' 20th anniversary.
Surprisingly for fans, a new title called Quake Champions was announced at Bethesda's E3 showcase this year, and not only does the title marks the first entry in the series in 11 years, but this announcement also occurs simultaneously with the franchise's 20th anniversary. The well established history of the series has not been lost on developer Machine Games, and the studio chose to celebrate it in a very nostalgic way.
Back in the days, Machine Games made a brand new Quake episode in honor of the classic-shooter's 20th birthday, making it free for all on Bethesda's website. The value in celebrating gaming anniversaries is evidently recognized by the studio, especially for series such as the iconic Quake, and while this new episode won't please older fans of the franchise, it will instead help generate some goodwill for the future Quake Champions.
What's interesting is that Quake isn't the only classic FPS that's receiving new content this year. Few months ago, John Romero, the co-creator of the original DOOM, released a brand new map for the classic 1993 game, even though the motivations behind that release were more of a promotion to his new shooter project rather than celebrating the franchise.
While it won't take too much time for Quake fans to learn Machine Games' new level, it's a different story for the upcoming Quake Champions. Besides the initial CG reveal trailer, not much info has been shared on the upcoming arena multiplayer shooter, except for speculations that it will feature some type of MOBA gameplay style, due to the usage of the word champions and what appears to be specific character builds available to players.
No release date has been announced for Quake Champions yet, but so far, its only confirmed platform is PC.
