Konami Defends PES 2015 Microtransactions

James Cox, the studio head of Konami’s new European studio says "We’re just trying to give players the choice."

Konami's new European studio which is making its PES debut this year, explained that most players will use agents to scout for new recruits in the new myClub mode. This extension of the series’ popular Master League mode will let players use Game Points earned here and from training exercises to add to their squad. Cox said that the microtransactions, were added just as an alternative way to help the less skilled and those who can't spend too much time in-game and still be able to obtain galacticos for their team.

"If you don't have a lot of time, then with microtransactions you can go buy a lot of players that you want,” said Cox. “But you also can earn Game Points in the mode and other parts of PES as well. We’re trying to link things together so you can progress and build your team [normally]. The idea is that we’re trying to just give the players the choice of what they want to do. Some people have more time, some people have more money. Some people have a bit of each! Either way, you'll have the choice."

Cox added that it won’t be a case of blind buying, and spending to increase your chances of getting your man. “The general principle is that you will be able to buy the players you want,” he continued. “The exact final mechanic is all still being tuned, but yes - if you want to buy Ronaldo, one way or another, you will be able to do that. And you will be happy with what you spend your money on."

Konami has promised that the final prices are still being worked out, and more is to be expected at Gamescom.
