Konami Announced Metal Gear Survive

.....

At this year's gamescom, Konami has released a trailer for Metal Gear Survive, a follow up to Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes set in an alternate timeline with zombie monsters.

After series creator Hideo Kojima left Konami, the state of the Metal Gear Solid franchise was thrown into question. The first post-Kojima Metal Gear game has finally been revealed, and it is far from fans' expectations. During gamescom 2016, Konami unveiled Metal Gear Survive, a survival game with co-op that features zombie-like creatures, and stars a new cast of four playable characters instead of series hero Snake.

Metal Gear Survive happens in an alternate timeline after the events of Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes. As Snake escapes on the helicopter, wormholes open in the night sky, sucking some unlucky individuals that are now left to survive in a harsh desert landscape crawling with monsters. Although it sounds like this approach would mean Metal Gear Survive is discarding the franchise's stealth roots, Konami is convinced that isn't the case.

Regardless of whether or not Metal Gear Survive is keeping the franchise's stealth roots, fans are not satisfied with the game. Its reveal trailer received a huge number of dislikes, similar to the hate targeted at the Metal Gear Solid 3 pachinko machine, with the main complaint apparently about the lack of Snake. Judging by the trailer, it's hard to tell if Metal Gear's hero will be in the game much at all, and that's not something fans are looking forward to.

It's obvious that fans aren't happy with what Konami is doing with the Metal Gear Solid franchise. Fans started to have doubts ever since Konami said that there would be new Metal Gear games without Kojima, and so far, it seems they aren't convinced that Konami will be able to succeed.

If Konami's goal is to win fans back, it may want to concentrate on a core entry in the series, not strange spinoffs and pachinko machines. Fans are already angry about how Konami has treated Kojima, its cancellation of Silent Hills, and for lots of other questionable decisions the company has made over the past few years.

Metal Gear Survive is going to be available in 2017 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
