Japan Will Get a Nintendo Classic Mini
-----------The Mini NES is not going to be the only highly desired stocking stuffer this holiday season, as Nintendo announced that the Mini Famicom will be sold exclusively in Japan.
Fans of gaming from all over the Internet have just about lost their minds a couple of months ago when Nintendo announced it was releasing a miniature version of the Nintendo Entertainment System in time for the 2016 holiday shopping season.
Entitled the NES Classic Edition, the very small console will arrive with 30 classic titles and will feature a few modern conveniences like save points and various display options when it gets released in stores on November 11. Considering the excitement over the initial announcement, it's been assumed by many industry watchers that it's going to be difficult to keep the NES Classic Edition in stock. But now, Nintendo has announced a different holiday stocking-stuffer that might turn out to be even more highly coveted.
A report from Ars Technica states that the Mini Famicom will be on sale in Japan only, but that didn't stopped fans of Nintendo in the United States and elsewhere from drooling over the last 24 hours. The system hits the stores in Japan on November 10 for 5980 yen or roughly the same $60 price tag as the Mini NES.
Similar to the Mini NES, the Mini Famicom is also going to be shipped with 30 pre-installed games and include modern features like HDMI. What's really interesting for hardcore fans is that the game lineup for the Japanese console is a little bit different than the Mini NES. The Mini Famicom replaces some North American titles like Punch-Out in order to include Japanese-only titles like Atlantis no Nazo and sumo wrestling game Tsuppari Oozumou.
Gamers will need to speak a fluent Japanese in order to get the full experience out of the Mini Fanicom but the console is probably going to be in demand with English-speaking fans simply because of its novelty. Japanese import sites could generate some heavy sales this holiday season if Nintendo produces enough Mini Famicoms to go around.
