Ex-Lionhead Dev Team Brings New Fable Game To Kickstarter
-----------A new game studio that's been founded by former members of Lionhead Studios are launching a Kickstarter for Fable Fortune, a trading card game set in the Fable Universe.
Before a sudden close one month ago, Lionhead Studios has been working on continuing the Fable franchise with a unequal multiplayer game Fable Legends. Not only that, but they were also working in secret on a collectible card game that is set in the same universe, called Fable Legends.
Even though Fable Legends was cancelled, Microsoft gave permission to the new Flaming Fowl Studios, founded by members previously working in Lionhead Studios, to continue the work on Fable Fortune. With the lack of publishers, the game will begin its Kickstarter on Tuesday, May 31st.
Since the game has been in development for over a year already, Flaming Fowl plans on having a beta available to backers soon after the campaign's conclusion. The expected release date of Fable Fortune is early next year.
On its very start, the Fable franchise has put an emphasis on morality choices, so it should come as no surprise that Fable Fortune will have a similar, good vs. evil concept at play. After almost halfway through a match, the player will be asked to make a choice by completing specific objectives. It's still early to say, but as the Kickstarter suggests, choices made will have a wide range of effects, including adjusting a hero's powers or even allowing certain cards to take new forms. This new mechanic will mostly help Fable Fortune stand out from different genre games and introduce a vast range of options that could dramatically change the board.
After the announcement that Lionhead will shut down, some of its development team began working on a playable prototype for Fable Fortune, with hopes of using it as a sales pitch in the future. Now that prototype will form the backbone of the announced beta, which arrives to backers of the Kickstarter project. Additionally, some backers will be able to join an exclusive forum and participate in the making of this title.
Fable Fortune's Kickstarter campaign is planned to launch tomorrow. If funding is met, a closed beta will be available shortly after the campaign ends.
